Natural Dyeing Workshops

Discover the wonders of creating color on cloth with your own two hands!

Curious about natural dyeing but don't know where to start?

From sourcing your fabric, to scouring and mordanting, there’s a lot to be learned before you even start. I wouldn’t blame you for feeling overwhelmed and intimidated! These workshops are meant for those who need help getting started.

No need to invest in any supplies!

The most difficult part with natural dyeing is the space requirement. This can quickly become a messy hobby that requires a lot of supplies. Large pots, hot plates, spoons, bowls, not to mention the plants themselves!

These workshops come with all the necessary tools, just bring yourself!

Skip to the fun part - colour!

Another aspect of natural dyeing that could be quickly overlooked is the first steps of preparing the materials for dyeing – scouring and mordanting. For these workshops, I take care of these steps for us so we can get right to dyeing.

This earth month, join us in this hands-on workshop to discover the wonders of creating colour on cloth using organic materials from the kitchen! In this introductory class we will be working with four easily accessible food scraps: avocado skins and pits, onion skins, black beans and red cabbage. Participants will have the opportunity to dye and eco-print a set of tea towels each to bring home.

Supplies Needed: Rubber gloves that you’re happy to get dyed. The Garden will also provide latex gloves if you do not have your own rubber gloves to bring.

Important Notes: Participants will be outdoors for brief periods of time, and may stain their clothing as they work with the natural dye. Please dress accordingly.
