Natural Dyeing at UBC Botanical Gardens

September 21, 2024 @ 10:00 am - 1:30 pm
$60

Join me to discover the wonders of creating colour on cloth at UBC Botanical Gardens this September in an introductory workshop to natural dyeing!

This will be a hands-on experience, giving you the chance to connect, create and learn in a small group setting. We will go over the basics of preparing cloth for colour, tour the dye plants in the gardens, and finally dive into dyeing and printing our own pieces to take home!

During this workshop, you will have the opportunity to learn how to dye with four different plants: tickseed coreopsis, marigold, pokeweed and goldenrod. Each participant will be given a pair of socks to dye the colour of their choosing.

Then we will move onto eco-printing (or bundle-dyeing), where we will be working with a wider range of plant and food waste materials to create botanically printed cotton handkerchiefs.

I welcome you to bring your journals and questions and hope that you leave inspired to continue your plant-dyeing journey. There is so much to explore!
